Differences Between LVP & LVT
Luxury vinyl flooring comes in two styles, plank and tile. The plank style is referred to as LVP, or luxury vinyl plank. The tile style is referred to as LVT, or luxury vinyl tile. Luxury vinyl planks come in dimensions similar to that of hardwood plank flooring. Luxury vinyl tiles come in dimensions similar to ceramic tile. Depending on the brand or style, LVT will be square or rectangular.
LVP & LVT Benefits
Luxury vinyl flooring is made with innovative technologies that make possible the ability for vinyl plank flooring and vinyl tile flooring to mimic natural hardwood and natural stone while still providing the durability benefits that come with conventional vinyl floor covering. The results are high-performance, waterproof floors with exceptional stain resistance that are easy to maintain.
Luxury vinyl can provide warmth to a home and comfort to your feet in ways traditional hardwood or stone flooring cannot. Unlike ceramic, porcelain or natural stone flooring, luxury vinyl does not crack or break. If you’re looking at luxury vinyl flooring for your home, OAK & STONE FLOORS have the flooring experts to help you get the right flooring for your specific needs and the professional installers to install it properly.
Here are two superb examples of luxury vinyl plank; the completely waterproof flooring options by COREtec that are popular with homeowners in the Portland and Vancouver metro areas.
COREtec Manila Oak LVP Luxury Vinyl
COREtec Manila Oak luxury vinyl plank is in COREtec’s Plus Enhanced Planks collection. To achieve the most realistic wood look, the COREtec Manila Oak LVP employs a 4-sided painted bevel for added depth. The stunning appearance is backed by the patented COREtec® technology featuring COREtec’s innovative COREtec core structure, which is an extruded core made from recycled wood and bamboo dust, limestone, and virgin PVC.
Since COREtec is 100% waterproof, COREtec Plus Enhanced floors can be installed in wet areas and will never swell when exposed to water. Since COREtec is inert and dimensionally stable, it will not expand or contract under normal conditions. COREtec never needs expansion strips in large rooms. The COREtec Manila Oak luxury vinyl plank has an attached cork underlayment for a quieter, warmer vinyl floor that is naturally resistant to odor causing mold and mildew.

Another great example of a waterproof luxury vinyl plank is Provenza’s Moda Living Collection. One color, Provenza’s Moda Living Road Trip LVP, is popular with the ladies who are joining together on Facebook and houzz to compare flooring samples and to help one another select flooring for their homes by sharing opinions and pictures of flooring installed in their homes. Another color in the Provenza Moda Living Collection, The Natural, is popular in general among the Portland metro area homeowners looking for new waterproof flooring. You can read more information about these two superb flooring options, below.
Provenza Road Trip LVP Luxury Vinyl
Provenza’s Road Trip luxury vinyl plank is one of the color options in Provenza’s Moda Living Collection. The Provenza Moda Living Collection incorporates their MaxCore 100% waterproof technology. Road Trip is classified by Provenza as Long Plank flooring. Provenza’s Long Plank flooring means your flooring planks will be 72 inches in length, 6 feet, rather than the shorter, 4 or 5 foot, length planks. The longer plank length can help a floor look less choppy, giving it more continuity along its length. Provenza Road Trip LVP has a ribbed, realistic, wood texture look with a beveled edge effect. It is also good to note that Provenza Road Trip LVP is 9 inches in width, so it is a wider plank than most.
When viewing sample pictures on flooring websites, like the picture provided above; it is good to keep in mind that the color of the flooring sample presented on the screen of your mobile phone or tablet, or on the monitor of your desktop computer, will display the sample in color tones according to the display settings set up in your operating system and those color tone settings can make the sample appear different than it does to the human eye.
With that in mind, it can be good to pick up on people’s comments regarding how a particular flooring looks in “real life”. People have made comments, online, about Provenza Road Trip’s color, indicating that pictures shown online have yellow undertones whereas in person, there are no yellow undertones. Those who have seen it installed in a home also comment that Provenza Road Trip looks clean and fresh and that the flooring has character without the crazy variation that some of the LVPs can have in their attempt to replicate realistic wood textures.

Provenza The Natural LVP Luxury Vinyl
Provenza’s The Natural luxury vinyl plank is one of the color options in Provenza’s Moda Living Collection. The Provenza Moda Living Collection incorporates their MaxCore 100% waterproof technology. The Natural is classified by Provenza as Long Plank flooring. Provenza’s Long Plank flooring means your flooring planks will be 72 inches in length, 6 feet, rather than the shorter, 4 or 5 foot, length planks; however, with The Natural you’ll get random length planks up to 72 inches, so some planks will be shorter. The longer plank length can help a floor look less choppy, giving it more continuity along its length. Provenza The Natural LVP has a ribbed, realistic, wood texture look with a beveled edge effect. It is also good to note that Provenza The Natural LVP is 7 inches in width, so it is a middle of the pack width option in the wider plank flooring selections.
With that in mind, wise floor covering shopping can start with browsing current flooring products online, but should progress to either viewing the product installed in a house, office or showroom or viewing sample boards at a local floor covering store to see how a particular flooring looks in “real life”. The Natural, like its closely colored sibling Road Trip, in the Moda Living Collection, can be described as having character and yet maintaining a clean look without the substantial variations that some of the LVPs can have.
If Provenza’s The Natural looks and sounds like a good fit for your home’s décor and design, we encourage you to stop by or make an appointment for a free in-home consultation where either way you can look at a sample board and benefit from OAK & STONE FLOORS’ flooring experts.

Know Your Luxury Vinyl Flooring
Things To Know About LVT & LVP Flooring Installation
OAK & STONE FLOORS offers many luxury vinyl flooring brands that come in looks that are ultra-realistic, but each brand and different types withing one brand can have different methods of installation (installation instructions). Some types use glue or grout, some lock together and some have peel-off backing. All luxury vinyl must acclimate to the environment of your home for a minimum of 48-72 hours. If you opt to install your own luxury vinyl, be sure to measure carefully when ordering and order enough to include overage. Otherwise, leave the installation to the experts at OAK & STONE FLOORS and they’ll take care of these details for you.
Removing Any Obstacles
Remove Flooring Obstacles
An expert installer will remove all the obstacles in the room, including appliances and trim; or, they will prearrange with the homeowner for the removal of some of these items. If they are working in a kitchen they will leave a kitchen island in place if it is to remain as a part of the home’s interior. OAK & STONE FLOORS’ flooring experts will also remove old flooring, to reveal the subfloor, if the brand and type of luxury vinyl requires removal of existing flooring. They will work quickly and efficiently to remove the existing floor and can dispose of it or place it for removal by the homeowner.
Preparing The Subfloor
Prepare Subflooring For Luxury Vinyl Installation
Luxury vinyl flooring should be installed on flat and clean subflooring. If the subfloor isn’t smooth, the luxury vinyl won’t be smooth. Gouges in the subflooring should be filled to ensure the subfloor is smooth.
Putting Down the Luxury Vinyl Flooring
Putting Down LVT & LVP
Your luxury vinyl flooring may come in sheets, planks or square tiles. Depending on the type of luxury vinyl flooring you have chosen, the installation may involve snapping planks together, gluing down sheets or peeling the backing off of tiles. Installation of planks should begin by laying them at the edge of a room and working across the room. If vinyl tiles are being installed one should begin in the center of the room to create a symmetrical pattern. Start by loose laying the tiles (without adhesive) and adjust the placement of the center tile so the tiles meeting the walls on the opposing sides of the room do so either at symmetrical depths into the tiles or so the tile meeting one wall does so at the tile’s natural edge if/when the tile meeting the wall on the opposing side of the room does so in an area where it is hidden from view or where it is close to the tile’s natural edge. Once the installer knows where the center tile will be placed for the best look with the tiles that meet all four walls, the installer can proceed to the next step.
Successful installation of luxury vinyl flooring that utilizes adhesion (glue) depends on how it sticks to the subfloor. Allow the bond to set firmly for several hours before replacing any trim or appliances. The OAK & STONE FLOORS team of flooring installation experts have the expertise and tools to complete your installation correctly.

Flooring Installation Prep
The Flooring Installation Preparation Of Your Home Or Office
In the installation of luxury vinyl floor covering, whether LVP or LVT; there are a few things that home or property owners can do to help an installation proceed smoothly for a worry-free installation.
Breakables
Our installers will need your help moving your fragile belongings. Please take care to move breakables, including crystal, porcelain, and china from shelves, cabinets, and tables. Don’t forget about decorative items you may have on top of hutches or other furniture.
Heating And Electricity
Please be sure to have your home temperature at a minimum of 65 degrees during the installation process. This will ensure that vinyl is protected. Also, please be sure that electric outlets in your home are turned on; installers will need electricity for power tools during some jobs.
Walls And Draperies
Pictures, wall hangings (especially those at a low height), and floor-length draperies may interfere with the installers’ movements. Please remove draperies or tie them back at least 36 inches above the floor.
Closets
Closets and storage areas where flooring will be installed need to be cleared, and long-hanging clothing needs to be removed to provide a 36-inch space to enable the installer to work freely.
Scheduling
At OAK & STONE FLOORS, you can expect your floor covering to be professionally installed on schedule. However, on very rare occasions, the date or time may need to be changed due to circumstances beyond our control. The prompt and professional installation of your floor covering is always our top priority at OAK & STONE FLOORS.
Old Flooring
The removal of old flooring and can take a considerable amount of time. Doors
After your new flooring has been installed, it may be necessary to trim the bottom of doors to accommodate the change in flooring height. OAK & STONE FLOORS can arrange this for your installation or recommend a company to complete this work.
Furniture Moving
We will gladly handle the moving of regular furniture during installation. Some items may require special handling and you can arrange these services in advance with your OAK & STONE FLOORS sales professional. Some types or sizes of furniture may require an additional moving charge. Please note that pool tables, grand pianos, and wood stoves are best handled by professional movers and should be moved prior to installation.
Appliances And Electronics
Some appliances may require special handling. Arrangements for disconnections and hookups of ice makers, gas appliances, commodes, or alarm systems should be made prior to installation. Stereos and other electronic equipment should also be moved before the time of installation.
